About Time for Grandparents

Who we are

Time for Grandparents partners with the Queensland Government Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships to provide state-wide support and programs for Grandparents raising grandchildren, including:

The state-wide Time for Grandparents service is for Grandparents who are the full-time primary carers of Grandchildren and who are not receiving the fostering allowance or kinship carer payment and do not have a care plan through the State Government.

Our vision

The vision of Time for Grandparents is to ensure that support is available for any eligible Grandparent involved in the raising and primary care-giving of a grandchild or grandchildren.

We realise our vision through:

Support

We understand that information is not widely available for Grandparents who may be struggling. That’s why our phone line is always available and our team is ready to assist.

Social network

Taking on a parenting role can be socially isolating. Our activities, programs and initiatives provide invaluable communities for Grandparents from all backgrounds.

Financial assistance

We know that raising grandchildren can add extra financial difficulties, which is why financial assistance may be available for our camps, as well as sports and recreational activities.

Respite

Grandparents taking care of grandchildren often do so at tremendous sacrifice of their own wellbeing. Our programs provide both an emotional break and physical respite for Grandparents from the responsibilities of their role as child-rearers.

Mission and values

Mission and values

Time for Grandparents is part of UnitingCare, whose Mission and Values inform all of our services and actions. Our employees and volunteers work in a way that reflects these values.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grandfamilies

Time for Grandparents supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grandparents who are full-time carers of their grandchildren and not receiving the fostering allowance or kinship carer payment, and do not have a care plan through the State Government.

Our work is culturally inclusive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grandparent carers. Non-Indigenous Grandparent carers raising their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander grandchildren are welcome to join us in their cultural journey of learning. We also have an Aboriginal worker at Time for Grandparents.
